Rainwater Systems

Smart and simple
Geberit’s Pluvia roof drainage system, with its effective and reliable siphonic action, has been specified for a new school building in Harrow, Middlesex.Contractors working on the £32 million redevelopment of Whitmore High School turned to the Pluvia roof drainage system to ensure they were able to fulfil the very specific design considerations of the new building, a major architectural feature of which is its large flat roof.
Based on a negative pressure suction system, Pluvia roof outlets are linked together directly under the roof with a non-sloping collector pipe, enabling large roof areas to be drained through a single discharge stack and making the planning and installation much simpler and less expensive than a conventional roof drainage system.
The siphonic action of Pluvia ensures the drainage pipe system can fill up completely and creates a negative pressure in the pipeline, which quickly draws any rainwater by suction from the roof area and also acts as a self-cleaning function, reducing maintenance costs.
The draining challenges posed by the new Whitmore High School building were therefore easily met by Pluvia, with contractors NG Bailey being very satisfied with the results.
NG Bailey’s mechanical project manager, Paul Williams, explained: “We found that the system was quick and simple to install on site, which was very important for us.”
