PITCHED ROOFING
Makita’s most powerful range yet
On the release of Makita’s XGT 40V Max range of cordless machines, Kevin Brannigan, marketing
manager at the company, explains the thinking behind XGT – including the design concepts and the
benefits to operators
and provides RCI readers with an introduction to the new products
Since the launch of 18V LXT in
October 2005, Makita has led the
way in cordless tool innovation
and technology. Now, to meet
market demands for greater cordless
power and to recognise the needs of
professional contractors, Makita has
expanded its cordless portfolio with the
launch of XGT 40V Max.
This new cordless tool and battery
platform offers greater power and
performance, comparable to mains
powered or petrol engine machines.
Makita has combined innovative
tool design and higher output batteries
to provide a genuine solution for
high demand applications – without
compromising on battery run times and
charge times.
XGT batteries benefit from a tough
design – each battery has a durable
casing with shock absorbing housing,
and is splash and shower proof to
limit water ingress. This protects the
batteries against knocks and drops, and
is ideal for those working outside in
unpredictable weather.
Similar to the 18V LXT battery
platform, XGT 40V also benefits from
Makita’s smart system, that allows
digital communication between
the battery and the charger and
the battery and the tool. This keeps
batteries protected during use and
whilst charging, as issues such as
over-discharge and over-heating
are identified and rectified quickly,
preventing damage. As a result, charge
times are improved. For example,
XGT batteries will charge in just 28
minutes (2.5Ah) up to 45 minutes
(4.0Ah), improving your productivity as
downtime is reduced.
Introducing: the XGT 40V
Max range
Makita has launched a number of new
products for the 40V XGT platform, each
suited to high demand applications –
including cutting, grinding, drilling
and fixing.
Impact driver
The TD001G impact driver delivers 220
newton-metres of max fastening torque
with the choice of four power modes
(Max, Hi, Mid and Lo), that can be
selected using a simple one touch control,
in addition to six assist modes as pre-sets
for wood screws, bolts, or TEK screws.
In the highest power mode, this machine
offers a maximum speed of 3,700 rpm
and up to 4,400 impacts per minute.
Combi-hammer drill
The versatile HP001G combi drill
has a variable speed trigger and two
mechanical gears with a broad range of
clutch settings – 41 in gear one and 21 in
gear two – so you can finely adjust the
output for each task. It has a capacity of
20mm in steel and masonry and 76mm
in wood, and can reach speeds of up to
2,600 rpm. The HP001G delivers up to
39,000 blows per minute (bpm) when in
impact drilling mode.
The machine features Makita’s Active
Feedback Sensing Technology (AFT) that
turns off the motor if the rotation speed
suddenly slows – protecting the user from
injury if the drill bit jams in the material.
Angle grinders
Makita has launched eight XGT angle
grinders: GA004G, GA005G, GA012G,
GA013G, GA022G, GA023G, GA028G
and GA029G. Ideal for heavy duty
cutting or grinding applications, each
machine delivers the equivalent power
of a 1,100W corded grinder and a no-load
speed of 8,500 rpm. To protect users,
each machine includes AFT and an antirestart
function, to prevent accidental
motor start-up when a battery is inserted
with the switch locked on.
Combination hammers
The HR003G and HR004G can reach
speeds up to 980 rpm and up to 5,000
bpm of hammer action. They are
incredibly versatile and include a
variable speed trigger and three function
options – rotary hammer, rotary only
and hammer only. The HR004G is also
equipped with a Quick Change Chuck
to make switching between drill bits fast
and simple, which is ideal when working
at height.
Makita’s Anti-Vibration Technology
(AVT) improves operator comfort and
safety. When hammer drilling into
concrete the HR003G and HR004G have
vibration levels of just 7.0m/s2 and 6.5m/
s2 respectively for increased safe
trigger times.
Circular saw
Roofing boards, joists or frames can be
easily cut to size with Makita’s HS004G.
Its Automatic Torque Drive (ADT)
Technology means that the cutting
speed of the HS004G is automatically
adjusted according to the load conditions
– maximising on-site productivity. It has
twin LED job lights, is compatible with
the Makita guide rail system without an
adapter and is capable of 48° bevel cuts.
Reciprocating saw
The JR001G offers cutting speeds of
up to 3,000 strokes per minute, two
electronic speed settings and a variable
speed trigger – for quick and easy
cutting through thick materials. When
compared to Makita’s LXT Twin 18V
(36V) machines, the new 40V JR001G
cuts metal 10% faster and wood 35%
faster, allowing improved productivity.
The JR001G is lightweight (4.2kg), has
an ergonomically designed handle for
comfortable operation and a vertical
crank mechanism for smooth cutting.
