New Dakea app solves installer issues
A new app has been launched by
Dakea to solve specific challenges
that local contractors and
installers face on a day-to-day
basis.
The manufacturer of roof
windows, which are built for the
trade, designed its PRO.app based
on feedback from tradespeople
who said they needed digital
solutions which would enable
them to work more eciently.
With time of the essence,
especially right now given the
backlog of work created by the
COVID-19 crisis and lockdown,
tradespeople need to streamline
their working processes as much
as possible.
To help achieve this, the Dakea
PRO.app loyalty program provides
roof window installers with added
value during their working day,
thanks to the fact that they
can easily register for a 20-year
warranty, and can redeem points
for special rewards.
Installers will receive the above
benefits simply by scanning
the QR code found on Dakea
roof windows while they work,
significantly reducing the red tape
and hassle usually associated
with applying for a long-term
guarantee.
In addition, by building up
credits simply by doing their job,
installers can make their work go
further. The rewards available
from the Dakea PRO.app are
also aimed at helping to support
tradespeople with their business,
as users can exchange points
to receive workwear, kit and
marketing materials, in addition to
e-vouchers, hampers and electric
goods.

BMI AeroDek tiles on the button at Sutton
Swift to install and vandal
resistant, the BMI AeroDek
lightweight metal roofing tiles
enabled contractors to replace
the failing roof at St Helen’s
Sutton Academy with minimum
disruption.
Covered against failure to
provide a weatherproof roof with
BMI’s 40-year insurance-backed
product guarantee, the 5,200m2
roof is the first phase of the reroofing
project, yet it is a case of
‘spot the join’ as the coated zinc
aluminium galvanised steel tile
panels closely match the existing
concrete tiles.
St Helen’s Sutton Academy
commissioned Lancaster Maloney
to draw up the school’s Capital
Funding Application to replace
the original roofs in BMI AeroDek
Robust Plus.
Stuart Jenness from Lancaster
Maloney, the associate in charge,
had to find a product that met a
number of challenges: to find a tile
suitable for a very low pitch of just
14°, that would match the existing
tiles – as the roof could only be
refurbished in phases; and one
that would easily accommodate
the complexities of the many hips,
valleys and vertical elements.
Matching existing roof coverings
is one of the strengths of the BMI
AeroDek range of tiles, as all the
tiles have a stone granular finish,
that is ceramically colour glazed
with coloured silicates, which
give the tiles exceptional colour
stability. The granular surface is
designed to diuse light in the
same way as products made from
naturally occurring materials.
BMI AeroDek tiles can be
installed on roofs of any pitch,
from as low as 10° to vertical, and
they weigh just one-seventh of
an equivalent concrete tile. They
are also faster to lay as they are
produced in tile strips, so require
fewer fixings.

Makita adds new drills and drivers to its XGT 40V range of cordless high-performance tools
Makita UK has extended its XGT range of cordless high-performance
40V Max tools, with the addition of two models of rotary hammer,
a combi-drill and an impact driver, which are ideal for heavy duty
applications where cordless may not have previously coped. All four
products benefit from Makita’s advanced brushless motor technology.
The HR003G and HR004G 40V Max Brushless Rotary Hammers oer
outstanding performance with speeds up to 980 revolutions per minute
(rpm), and up to 5,000 blows per minute (bpm) of hammer action. They
feature a variable speed trigger and three function options – rotary
hammer, rotary only and hammer only – making them versatile and
easy to adjust to each task. The HR004G is also equipped with a Quick
Change Chuck to make switching between drill bits fast and simple.
Both machines include Makita’s Anti-Vibration Technology (AVT)
for improved operator comfort and safety. When hammer drilling into
concrete the HR003G and HR004G have vibration levels of just 7.0m/
s2 and 6.5m/s2 respectively for increased safe trigger times. To protect
users from dust inhalation during operation, the rotary hammers are
compatible with the DX12 (HR003G) and DX14 (HR004G) dust boxes.
The highly versatile HP001G Combi Drill is compact and easy to
handle. It has a variable speed trigger and two mechanical gears with
a broad range of clutch settings – 41 in gear one and 21 in gear two.
This makes it easy to finely adjust the output for the task at hand.
The HP001G has a capacity of 20mm in steel and masonry and 76mm
in wood. In high gear it has a speed of 2,600 rpm and delivers up to
39,000 blows per minute when in impact drilling mode. To ensure the
safety of the user, the machine features Makita’s Active Feedback
Sensing Technology that turns o the motor if the rotation speed
suddenly slows. This protects the user from injury if the drill bit jams in
the material.
Also added to the Makita range, is the powerful TD001G Brushless
Impact Driver. It delivers up to 220 newton-metres (Nm) of torque with
the choice of four power modes (Max, Hi, Mid and Lo), selected using a
simple one touch control, in addition to six assist modes. In the highest
power mode, it has a maximum speed of 3,700 rpm and delivers up to
4,400 impacts per minute.
