Project1_Layout 1 07/05/FIXINGS & FASTENERS ForgeFix confi rms enhancements to TechFast range ForgeFix, the business behind some of the UK’s best known brands of fi xings, fasteners, power tool accessories and hardware, has announced plans to expand and enhance its TechFast screw range Developed specifi cally for the roofi ng and cladding sector, TechFast screws from ForgeFix draw on the latest advances in screw design and materials, as well as the company’s extensive fastening experience, which spans more than 30 years. As a result, the screws offer many notable benefi ts such as the use of ForgeFix’s elementech coating, which is said to offer greater levels of protection, compared to more commonplace zinc coatings, and last up to six times longer. elementech is also more versatile, being suitable for both interior and exterior use, as well as being more environmentally friendly. Unlike many zinc coatings, it is free of potentially toxic Cr6 (hexavalent chromium). Salt spray tested to 1,000 hours In the case of the elementech coating employed on the TechFast range, it has been salt spray tested to 1,000 hours. The different screws within the range also 084 FEBRUARY 2018 RCIMAG.COM offer a number of features, such as self-drilling points to ensure a quicker fi x, Torx heads for a fi rmer drive and reduced cam-out, and integral fl ange heads with rubber washers to provide a waterproof seal. The TechFast range already includes heavy and light duty sheet to timber, sheet to sheet (stitching), and timber to steel screws in a selection of sizes. An expanding range ForgeFix will be building on the success of these existing screws by adding a number of new sizes, as well as new products to its portfolio. In addition, the range extension and enhancement will be complemented by the introduction of new packaging, which will enable easier product identifi cation and selection. It will also allow users to clearly see the numerous quality standards TechFast screws comply with. Brian Trevaskiss, marketing manager at ForgeFix, said: “Since its introduction, TechFast branded screws have become an increasingly recognised ForgeFix’s TechFast range of screws and respected choice for professionals across the roofi ng and cladding industry. “Our latest developments aim to build on that popularity by enabling users to benefi t from the TechFast quality they know and trust across various new sizes and product types.” The TechFast range will be available from stockists nationwide from April 2018. www.forgefi x.co.uk Complete vapour control is delivered with Visqueen’s Vapour Tapes range Visqueen, a manufacturer and supplier of structural waterproofi ng and gas protection systems, has launched a range of vapour tapes to ensure complete airtightness for building projects when used as an integral part of the building’s vapour check system. With a working temperature range from -40°C to 40°C, the Visqueen Vapour Tapes are designed for all weather conditions, and are said to actively displace moisture, creating a bond to surfaces. Utilising advanced adhesive technology that is 20 times more aggressive than standard adhesive systems at low temperatures, the Vapour Tapes mount Visqueen’s vapour membranes to the building substructures, providing grip to both wood and metal surfaces, whilst ensuring airtight jointing and detailing between membranes. Vapour Tapes form part of Visqueen’s complete vapour barrier system, which prevents warm, moist air from permeating into a building’s timber structures and insulation, and improves general airtightness to ensure compliance to Part L of the Building Regulations, as well as complying with EN13984:2012. This protects insulation and structural elements from condensation damage, and prevents the buildup of damp and mould, which can reportedly have negative effects on human health, causing asthma, rhinitis, itchy eyes, respiratory symptoms, respiratory infection and eczema. The Vapour Tapes are available in two forms – the Visqueen Double Sided Vapour Tape is 20mm x 50m, and provides 250m of linear coverage, enough for at least one room, and is less than half the price of standard blue butyl tape per linear metre. The Visqueen Single Sided Vapour Tape is a fl exible blue PE-Scrim tape, and is for sealing overlaps, detailing and pipe penetration. Phil Bull, sales director at Visqueen, said: “The launch of our Vapour Tapes shows Visqueen’s commitment to providing a complete solution for vapour control within building projects. “By using Visqueen Vapour Tapes together with our Vapour Barrier Membranes, designers, specifi ers and contractors can be assured that they are providing complete vapour and airtightness to their building project, in line with the requirements of the latest Building Regulations.” www.visqueenbuilding.co.uk
