Kingspan insulates rehabilitation centre
Kingspan Kooltherm K15
Rainscreen Board has been
installed on a new £1 million
rehabilitation centre for people
with sporting injuries.
As a charity, it was important
that the building was as energy
efficient as possible to reduce the
long-term running costs.
Sage Building Envelope
Contractors installed the Kingspan
Kooltherm K15 Rainscreen board
throughout the building envelope.
The premium performance
product features a fibre-free
core and can reportedly achieve
thermal conductivities as low
as 0.020 W/m.K, resulting in a
slim wall build-up. It has also
been assigned a highest possible
Green Guide Summary Rating
of A+ by the BRE, and has been
certified as ‘Excellent’ under the
demanding responsible sourcing
standard, BES 6001.

Kingspan TEK is light on its feet at safari park

The Kingspan TEK Building
System has been erected at West
Midland Safari Park. 500 m2 of the
Kingspan TEK Building System in a
142 mm thickness were pre-cut to
specification by delivery partners,
Glosford SIPS.
Following this, the Kingspan TEK
panels were clad with cedar and
African art panels on the walls and
dark green corrugated tin sheeting
on the mono pitched roof, to blend
in with the landscape and fit the
aesthetic of the park. With the roof
panels being light, there was also
less structural stress.

The Kingspan
TEK Building
System of
structural
insulated
panels (SIPs)
were erected
in just two
weeks to
ensure the
Smokehouse
BBQ was
restaurantready
for
Easter.
Building System envelope, the
project could accomplish ‘excellent’
levels of thermal performance by
achieving U-values of 0.20 W/m2.K
or better for the walls and roof.
The insulated spline jointing
detail, in combination with its
OSB/3 facing bonded to a highly
insulated core, was said to have
ensured minimal thermal bridging
through the insulation layer and
resulted in a very airtight building
shell which offered air permeability
of less than 1 m3/hr.m2 at 50 Pa.

Icynene contractor catches the
Dragon’s attention
Kent-based Icynene Contractor,
Eco Spray Foams was picked
by the retail entrepreneur and
Dragons’ Den star, Theo Paphatis,
as a winner of Small Business
Sunday, a weekly initiative set
up by Theo that supports small
businesses in the UK.
Eco Spray Foams is one
of a nationwide network of
contractors who specialise in the
installation of Icynene sprayapplied
insulation.
Anything for a quiet life
Troldtekt acoustic ceiling tiles have
been installed in a house in Sai
Kung, Hong Kong.
The project by Millimeter
Interior Design has transformed
an impractical and cramped
split-level into a four-storey home,
incorporating a large living room,
family room, four bedrooms, a
den, open rooftop sitting area,
a garden and an interesting
approach to garaging!
Reverberated sound is
controlled by the use of Troldtekt
acoustic ceiling panels throughout
the main living space and interior
Icynene is a spray foam
insulation that is said to expand
100-fold when applied, sealing
all gaps service holes and hard
to reach spaces where air
leakage can occur. It reportedly
eliminates cold bridging and
achieves airtightness standards in
excess of those required even for
Passivhaus-type construction.
