OMG Roofi ng Products unveils the PGU-7
With commercial rooftop solar installations on the rise and the occurrence of damaging storms increasing,
there is a growing need for stronger roof anchor systems. The PowerGrip Universal 7 (PGU-7) has been
recently launched to the market, which according to OMG Roofi ng Products, is compatible with all
commercial roofi ng systems. The company explains more about its latest product
The PowerGrip Universal 7 (PGU-
7) from OMG Roofi ng Products is
a new rooftop attachment anchor
for mounting solar racking
systems and other products to virtually
any commercial roof.
PGU-7 units are designed to reduce
or eliminate the need for ballast in solar
racking systems, so there is less weight,
material handling and labor on the roof.
OMG Roofi ng Products offers a
full line of PowerGrip roof anchors for
virtually every type of commercial roof,
and the PGU-7 is the fourth PowerGrip in
the family of solar anchors.
All PowerGrip products are designed
specifi cally for use on commercial roofs,
and the fi rst two products – PowerGrip
Standard and PowerGrip Plus – are
made using the same brand and type of
thermoplastic material that is installed on
These anchors are bonded to the roof
cover using the same hot-air welding
technique that is used to create watertight
seams on the roof.
Most importantly, all PowerGrip
anchors, including the PowerGrip
Universal 7, are secured directly to the
structural roof deck for enhanced wind
performance, and are designed for use
with ballasted, rail-less and rail-based
solar racks and other equipment without
having to cut open or ‘core’ the roof.
Designed with wind performance in
mind, PGU-7 units offer up to 910 kN,
(2,051 lbf.) of tensile strength, 700 kN,
(1,581 lbf.) of shear strength, and up to
980 kN, (2,214 lbf.) of compressive load
strength, making it one of the strongest
roof anchors on the market today.
Made of heavy-duty cast aluminum,
PGU-7 units include a base ring that is
secured through the roofi ng assembly
and into the structural roof deck, as well
as a waterproof cover plate to prevent
water from infi ltrating the system.
“Commercial rooftop solar has
continued to grow at a steady pace,” said
Kevin Kervick, solar business manager at
OMG Roofi ng Products.
“In addition, the prevalence of
damaging storms has increased
dramatically over the past few years,
which has reinforced the market need
for stronger roof anchor systems, such as
PGU-7s, which are easy-to-install.”
PowerGrip products provide a secure,
water-tight connection directly to the
roof deck or structural members, thereby
taking the wind-load off the membrane
or roof cover, and plac ing it onto the
structural deck where it belongs for
maximum strength and effectiveness.
Since the new anchor does not require
any membrane welding, PGU-7 units
are typically installed in less than fi ve
minutes, saving both time and labour
when compared to alternative options.
Once secured in place, properly installed
PowerGrip products can help eliminate
rack movement and remain watertight.
In addition to ballast and rail-based
solar racking systems, PGU-7 units can be
used for many other roof mounted items,
such as pipe supports, step crossovers,
raceways, satellite dishes, small antennas
and HVAC applications.
Lastly, they can be installed with
any of the several fasteners to match the
specifi c deck type and roofi ng assembly.
Most commonly, they are installed
using OMG #14 Heavy Duty Roofi ng
Fasteners, #15 XHD Roofi ng Fasteners,
OMG RetroDrillers or CD-10 Concrete
All of OMG Roofi ng Products’
fasteners pass the corrosion requirements
of Factory Mutual Approval Standard
4470 and ETAG 006.
